It's really hard to find time for yourself.
Practicing self-care sometimes gets a bad rep as being selfish. So, at least for me, it ends up getting pushed to the bottom of my to-do list. Everything else comes first.
And even though I do my best to keep my days empty and slow, sometimes my schedule gets away from me.
Busy can creep up on you out of nowhere.
And on those busy days it is so difficult to put down the to-do list and do something just for me. The end of the to-do list never comes, and I end up in bed, exhausted, and well on my way to being sick.
That is not ok.
But sometimes that's just how life is. There are just some days, and sometimes even weeks, when you can't spend an hour taking a bubble bath or a few hours outside reading a book.
So when life gets too busy, it's good to have a list of really simple things you can do to practice self-care.
We're talking really simple, here. 10 minutes or less.
They're easy enough that you can practice self-care while still feeling like you're keeping your forward momentum and getting things done.
Quick and Easy Ways to Practice Self-Care
Take a few deep breaths - if you're feeling stressed and rushed, this is a great way to slow down and clear your mind.
Go outside - even if it's just walking to your car to head to your next thing, take about 30 seconds to enjoy being in the sunshine.
Make a cup of tea - if you're pressed for time, throw a mug of water in the microwave. You'll have tea time in 2 minutes.
Treat yourself - look at pictures of puppies and kittens. For real though. Keep a picture or two on your phone, or maybe as your background. When you feel the need to get away but don't have time, take a look at it.
Listen to soothing music - there's no right or wrong music to listen to. Put on anything that makes you happy.
Stretch - getting up and moving, even if just for a minute, can really boost your mood. And stretching is a great way to take care of yourself.
Diffuse essential oils - or if setting up your diffuser is too much work, you can get a diffuser necklace or bracelet to wear during the day. I have a necklace I use to diffuse a stress relief blend. It is a life saver on busy days!
Count your blessing - spending time focusing on the good things in your life is a great way to practice self-care. It's also a great way to calm down if you're feeling stressed or anxious on a busy day.
